International Export Pharmacy Permit

Pending federal approval, Chapter 2019-99, Laws of Florida, will establish two programs to safely import FDA-approved prescription drugs into Florida: The Canadian Drug Importation Program and the International Drug Importation Program. The Board of Pharmacy is responsible for the creation and inspection of a new permit for an international export pharmacy. Additionally, the law creates eligibility criteria for the types of prescription drugs to be imported, the importation process, safety standards, distribution requirements, and penalties for violations of the established program. Federal approval is required before the programs may begin. At this time, the proposal for federal approval is underway.

The Department of Business and Professional Regulation is responsible for creating the international prescription drug importation program; the permits for pharmacy wholesalers and distributors; registration of drugs and devices; and operation of a pilot program upon authorization granted under federal law, rule, or approval. The Agency for Health Care Administration is responsible for creating the Canadian Prescription Drug Importation Program.

More information will be coming soon.
