The Governor’s Appointments Office is currently accepting applications for appointments to the Florida Board of Pharmacy. The Board was established to ensure that every pharmacist and pharmacy technician practicing in Florida meets minimum requirements for safe practice. The Board is responsible for licensing, monitoring, disciplining and educating pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and when appropriate, rehabilitating licensees to ensure competency and safety to practice in Florida.
The Florida Board of Pharmacy plays a leading role in the ever-changing health care environment through dialogue with the public, the legislature, academia, and the community. The Board consists of nine members appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. Seven members are Florida licensed pharmacists in good standing and two members are consumer members. Consumer members are citizens of Florida who have never been licensed as a pharmacist and are in no way connected with the practice of the profession of pharmacy. No person may be appointed as a consumer member who is in any way connected with a drug manufacturer or wholesaler. Of the pharmacist members, two must be currently engaged in the practice of pharmacy in a community pharmacy, two must be currently engaged in the practice of pharmacy in a Class II institutional pharmacy or a Modified Class II institutional pharmacy, and three must be pharmacists licensed in Florida irrespective of practice setting. At least one member of the Board must be 60 years of age or older.
