Pharmacist-Application for HIV Postexposure Prophylaxis Certification

Section 465.1861, Florida Statutes, provides that a pharmacist who orders and dispenses HIV Postexposure Prophylaxis treatment must meet the following requirements.

  1. Hold an active and unencumbered license to practice pharmacy in Florida and be engaged in the active practice of pharmacy.
  2. Have earned a degree of Doctor of Pharmacy or have at least 3 years of experience as a licensed pharmacist.
  3. Maintain at least $250,000 of liability coverage.
  4. Have completed an approved course

Collaborative Practice Information:

Section 465.1861(4), Florida Statutes, outlines specific requirements for the written collaborative practice agreement between a pharmacist and a physician.

A physician who has entered into a written collaborative practice agreement pursuant to this section is responsible for reviewing the pharmacist’s records and actions to ensure compliance with the agreement.

The pharmacist shall submit a copy of the written collaborative practice agreement to the board office.

Access-To-Care Plan Information

A pharmacy in which a pharmacist is providing services under a written collaborative practice agreement must submit an access-to-care plan (ACP) to the board office and department by February 28, 2025, and by February 28 each year thereafter. The ACP must include the requirements found in section 465.1861(7)(a), Florida Statutes.

  1. Complete a board approved 2-hour HIV Postexposure Certification Course. Please submit the certificate of completion for the course with your application. More information regarding approved courses may be found on CE Broker.
  2. Apply for a Pharmacist HIV Postexposure Prophylaxis Certification. Ensure that all fields are completed as instructed and include your course certificate and proof of liability insurance. An incomplete application shall expire after one year.
  3. Submit a copy of a Collaborative Practice Agreement. Prior to providing or implementing patient care services under a written agreement, a pharmacist shall submit the collaborative practice agreement to the board office through the online licensure account by clicking here. Please note that this agreement is not required at the time of certification; however, a pharmacist who enters into a collaborative pharmacy practice agreement must submit a copy of the signed agreement to the board office before services can be provided.
  4. Please allow up to 10 business days for initial review. After your application has been reviewed, any deficiencies will be communicated to you in writing by board staff. To expedite processing, please submit all required supporting documentation with your application and the requisite fees.

There is no application fee for the HIV Postexposure Prophylaxis Certification.
